As you have probably already know, the K2 Extension was rated number one Joomla Extension and it has a huge community and satisfied users. In fact i totally agree with the saying that K2 is probably one of the best ever built Joomla Extension out there.
But Why?
Well, to keep it simple through i have my 3 own points to explain:
- K2 is built from the ground on the Joomla MVC, which make it simple to work on, especially for newbie users into the Joomla Administrator, and for my opinion should be rule that all extensions should be built based on the Joomla MVC mode and not use their own styles and methods to deplow their code.
- As i have became very familiar with the K2 i have noticed that it has almost all the necessary elements/parameters to fully control the output that you want to archive. So let's say you want to built a magazine website. K2 can perfectly help you. But at the same time you may want a blog on your magazine website. Well K2 is there to do the job by changing some parameters.
- As im a web designer, also i want to point that the K2 is great for customizing and working on the design part and their Developers have done a great job with it. It uses only one CSS file and the Code is 100% divided from the Design (templates folder) making it perfect for us, web designers, to change and adapat exactly on the way we like. A small issue that i have found in terms of design is the usage of different ID's and Classes for each template (generic, user, category_item, item etc) and so at the same time different CSS codes for each elements pertaining to this template files. My point is that this templates should use the same classes so that i dont have to edit 4 classes for just the default image.
